Mule Musiq
Das SPEZIAL
Romantic Schizophrenic
Mule Musiq were made aware of the work of Das Spezial, a publicity-shy UK collective known for their self-released EPs and albums, by Henrik Schwarz. He recommended they listen to (and license) 'Romantic Schizophremic' - hence this must-check 12". The track itself is undeniably impressive; a throbbing, dark, bass-heavy house workout whose angular electronic motifs, relentlessly low-end pulse, modular madness and mind-mangling motifs sit somewhere between Isolee's bolder moments, Pepe Bradock's more accessible ones, and the trippy insanity of Paul Woolford's 'Erotic Discourse'. Fittingly, Schwarz remixes, combining some of the track's more suspenseful and atmospheric elements with dubby effects, spaced-out sonics, and some slowly rising sustained organ chords. More like classical early morning tech-house, it's a deeper but no less impactful interpretation.
